Medina backer sets off money ‘bombs’

Haltom City Councilman Anthony Reed said he pulled in over $75,000 in campaign contributions Tuesday, but the cash isn’t for him.

Reed, 22, is an avid supporter of Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina’s. Last year, he launched MedinaMoneyBomb.com to encourage people to donate to Medina’s campaign on specific days. The first two money bombs — in October and December — took in over $30,000, according to campaign finance records.

Reed credits the higher amount of last week’s bomb to Medina’s higher profile. “After those two debates, her name is out and more people know who she is,” Reed said. “Unfortunately, not enough people know who she is.”

Reed said he hopes to have the next money bomb on Feb. 15, the anniversary of the day the Texas Constitution took effect in 1876.
